Event Outline:

Honbu Dojo – South Australia is excited by your interest in participating in this camp. We have been working had to ensure that this camp’s program is one that your child will find enjoyable and challenging. We welcome enquiries, and encourage you to share your enthusiasm with other members of your club.

Invitees:

All registered JKA “Junior” members. (non-participating family members are also welcome).

Dual Purpose:

  • To provide an opportunity for our junior members to come together and experience a fun, informative and challenging weekend of karate. For the kids to meet kids from other Dojos, and to form new friendships and bonds with colleagues from around the state.
  • To provide a strategic opportunity for Instructor development & review.

Target Audience:

  • The training will be directed, specifically at young, ‘School-aged’ children (parents of our junior members will not be excluded from training, if they wish to join-in).
  • However, this event is NOT intended for adult development.
  • Quite often, the intensity at Gasshuku is a little too intense for young people to benefit from. By providing this opportunity, hopefully we can create an environment that is more conducive for our younger minds.

Method:

  • In order to cater for the younger minds, we have scheduled shorter session, but more of them. Each session has one specific goal, which assists in helping the kids to stay focused.
  • All attendees will be split into smaller groups – which will help us to develop a stronger sense of group-awareness among our junior members.

Developing Leadership:

  • The older, more experience kids will be given roles as group leaders. As group leaders, they will be encouraged to provide motivation, guidance and support for the younger kids.

Measuring outcomes:

  • During the course of the weekend, we will have 2 or 3 officials, who will be looking for behavioral excellence.
  • This may include:
    1. Effort during training,
    2. Assisting Instructors,
    3. Cleanliness of sleeping area,
    4. Outstanding manners,
    5. Support of team-mates – selflessness.
  • The official will be monitoring the behavior of all present, at all stages of the weekend.
  • As individuals accumulate behavioral points – those points will go onto their group’s points-tally.
